What is Death Wobble?
A violent front-end oscillation at highway speeds, usually after hitting a bump.
It can make the vehicle uncontrollable until you slow down.
Step 1 — Inspect the Track Bar
- Check both ends for play
- Torque specs: Axle side 120 ft-lbs, Frame side 130 ft-lbs
- Replace bushings or entire bar if worn
Step 2 — Ball Joints & Tie Rod Ends
- Jack up front axle and check vertical/horizontal play
- Replace as needed with quality (e.g., Moog)
Step 3 — Control Arms & Bushings
- Worn bushings allow axle shift → wobble
- Look for cracked rubber or clunks
Step 4 — Tires & Alignment
- Balance all tires
- Ensure caster angle ~4–6° after lift
- Toe-in slightly (0.10–0.20")
Step 5 — Steering Stabilizer (Optional)
Only after fixing root cause
Good for smoothing steering feel
